Give the keymasters a percentage of the photo's profit instead of 20 cents, or in addition to it. That way, they will be more careful about doing a thorough job.

Here's an old thread but I'm ressurrecting it in regards to an issue that has been on my mind for a while. I think keymasters perform a valuable service, particularly in light of the multi-cultural environment that puts non-english speaking contributors at a disadvantage.

On the other hand, the compensation differential between paid keymasters and volunteer key mentors is such that I can't see how it could possibly serve to inspire anyone to want to spend too much time suggesting keywords when the compensation rate is only 10% of that for paid keymasters. (or 90% less if you look at it from the other end)

There are those who feel its a great public service to perform this low paid function, and to those folks I certainly applaud their selfless, and civic nature. But why not offer those who provide keyword services through the keymentoring feature, a bit more incentive to provide what must be considered a valuable service by DT, considering they offer it to their users. Even increasing the percentage from 2 cents to 5 cents per image keyworded would be much fairer and would stimulate a whole lot more keyword suggestions by contributors.

I've been using this service for some of my pix (keep running out of credit).

The Keymaster pix are doing really well. Bargain at 20c

Every site should offer this service!

Thanks & keep up the good work :)

i truly agree with LightArt. I have been trying out the keyword program out of boredom last week or so. It would be nice if it's more than whats being offered now (0.02), at least it'll be able to attract more to participate.

The 2 cents have a symbolical value. Increasing that would just improve its success even more and increase the waiting time. I am sorry, this is not possible, there is a lot of work involved in reviewing this pending line. A lot of users abuse this feature and although penalties are applied, there is still a lot of input.
Take this feature as it is, a community thing, helping each other.

Achilles, If I understand you correctly the low rate of two cents for keywording is simply a 'token' amount, not meant to stimulate contributors to suggest keywords, because, as you put it, if you raised the compensation amount then the keyword program would be even more successful. . but success then translates to longer wait times and more abuse of the system by people who abuse the feature already.

I'm not sure I get the logic of that. But perhaps the reason so many people do abuse the 'feature' as you put it, do so because of the small value that they place upon their own time. . to such a small degree in fact, that they don't mind making the equivalent of of 40 cents an hour, so thus don't have a concept of what it costs to review them on your end.

Again. .you get what you pay for. Frankly I'd think that DT would want to assess the relative value of the time it spends 'reviewing' key mentoring by people who are content to do something as a lark or whim rather against the efficacy of reviewing mentoring by those who do it as a serious endeavor that might, if they do their job correctly, make them some money.

Yeah, I'm all for peace and love and singing Cumbaya. . but much more pleasurable to help people out when there is true and equitable value placed upon those efforts.
