Well I think that it truly gives a file ample time to prove that a market for it exsists. If after 2 years and keyword review it still has not been licensed then the odds are good that it does not have a viable market , at least not here. |

I agree with the negative feedback on the subscription pricing. The current rate of 60c (exclusive) regardless of the image level or size purchased is bad enough.
To allow someone to download a Level 2 (Level 5) image at maximum resolution for only 25c is just taking the pee. You may as well rename Dreamstime to edited by admin: please don't badmouth competitors

These are big changes indeed! I will have to review my files to see if there are any dormant photos. I might try scanning some more 35MM film. I have scanned most of my library but have a few negs and slides left. The original 2-3 mp images that many of us started with may have to be placed free or price reduced if newer images are of much better quality. Some magazines do not need stellar quality if the image is just a 4X6 inche insert photo. 10MP cameras seem to be the current standard. Lets hope the new year brings new prosperity! |

A photo is automatically at Level 1 until it has been downloaded 25 times, at which time it's status goes to Level 2. So this applies to individual photographs, not your entire portfolio.
Hope this helps! |

I also like Photoshow's idea for getting one chance to fixup keywords and another year in the database. For some things like seasonal images, they might miss out for some reason one season but have some x-factor that's hot for the next year. If they are uploaded a few months before the first season swings by they'd be deleted before the they got a chance to shine the next year.

On a different note, call it D80 envy :-) ... but I'm using a D50 6MP camera. I've done tons of research on the D80 and D200. A lot of interested people are saying more MP does not automatically mean a better image quality. There are a lot of other factors involved like lens quality and camera engineering.
I've invested many thousand dollars in pro lenses and the image quality is excellent on my D50 6MP camera using those lenses. It doesn't seem right that a camera paired with lesser optics should command a higher price because it is putting out more MP potentially at lower image quality.
Wondering if there's a way for reviewers to consider a upsizing a Large to an XL if it is tack sharp. Guarantee with a tripod or strobes, and pro glass, I can produce an image with a 6MP DSLR on par with what other 10 MP cams are putting out. |

I want to congratulate dreamstime on a job well done. As a designer it is difficult to find images usable and cost effective - I constantly search the web and other sources. Bravo on your success and your introduction of available images and artists. I have my favorites. That said, I want to remind those who think they are treated unfairly - would you have a market for your work without dreamstime? If so, I suggest you go there! Not all images are Museum Quality - though they have a market appeal and if good, you will make money. Remember - a market is not specifically driven by your image, it also takes the availability of an audience to find it. "dreamstime" has made a market for you and me - give them the consideration they deserve for creating the market to sell your work...

There are a good amount of photos accepted into the Assignments category that have no sales. Can those of us moving from photography into design expect to see those in the free area after a year of no sales? Prior to the change, if a files has 100 downloads (which could indicate an assignment or a studio shoot) be put down to 0? It seems terribly confusing.
Seeing a price differentiation is nice to see here and something those who are commited to their craft deserve, but having three different ways of determining the means of downloading and payout to the contributors seems terribly confusing. DT has made a great run for the top by standing strong on their business model. This one seems to be a little bit of this site, a little bit of that site, and far too many cooks in the kitchen to serve up a great meal.
I can only imagine the questions about download payments that will overwhelm support once this goes into effect. |

I wouldn't go that far...at least not yet (we'll see what the show in March brings us). In the Canon line, the most popular sports camera is an 8mp camera because of it's speed. The pictures that come out of the camera can frustrate people as while they are worthy of editorial publication, many have complained they are not sharp enough for stock.
The Canon 5d does produce a larger image, but even Canon admits that the 30d (an 8mp camera) has a higher dynamic range that is closer to their flagship 1d than the 5d. Additionally, the 30d is a faster camera that is more suited for sports.
There are rumors that this will all change in March, but for the next year, my 30d and 20d (backup camera) are going to do the trick. I hope that the following year I'll be able to afford a pair of 16mp 1d's but only time (and my hard work) will make the determination as to whether I can afford it. |

zitierte Meldung: If all your images are accepted by DT as exclusive images, and, I am an exclusive DT photographer, and after one year some of these images are deleted from the DT data base and no longer for sale on DT would I be able to sell these images elsewhere on other sites?
Just a question on policy for exclusive contributors. |
If you are exclusive here you can't sell your images elsewhere as stated in the terms and conditions, even if they are not for sale on DT. |

One more thing - how do I actually "delete" images?
As far as I can see I am only allowed to disable them?
Will they be permanently deleted at some point?
And when would that be? |
You don't need to delete images to donate them. You just use the donate field by entering the image ID.

zitierte Meldung: 1% of 1 000 000 is 10 000 free pictures. I think it is too much. I have just asked how not to be exclusive contributor any more and this goes to it. I think 4000-5000 of free images is top limit for that "so called" buffer.
Because if you review this section once a week that means you can discharge at least 150 000 - 200 000 pictures per year and that is enough. Or make commercial about 50 000 of them. And what about seasonal images?
And for the prices I think lower prices is not a good policy. I hope that you will review this until feb,15. Well, that is just my opinion!
|
10 000 images is the limit that this section may achieve. It is only a approximate number, it may not be reached, and it was given so that you won't believe that we will be having 500 000 images in that section. |

zitierte Meldung: Not too sure about the subscription. Are you saying that for $89.99, a subscriber can download 300 images at the largest size, any level, and we only get 25c?
For subscription, I think maybe the largest size available should be about 5Mp, or large should count as more images.
Many people downsize their images for subscription sites.
I love everything else. Sales have been rising fast on DT this year.
Looking forward to 2007!
Linda

The images bought on subscription will be awarded 0.25$ per image regardless of level or size of the image. A subscriber will buy a lot more images then a regular buyer who uses credits, that's why he receives this discount. |

| zitierte Meldung: Did I read correctly that we will have the OPTION to leave 1 year -> no download images in the free section? Conversely then, I would assume that we can just let them be deleted. Just because no buyer on this site downloaded the image, that doesn't mean they don't sell elsewhere, so why would I want to give them away here and cut my own throat elsewhere? |
It doesn't seem to affect sales at other sites. I had a free image here that has since sold over 100 times on one site alone making it one of my top 10 sellers on that site. When I put it up as free image I thought that it was a good image but it wasn't selling very well at that time. |

zitierte Meldung: Just to make the picture clearer - could you give us some info on how many are (currently) the images that haven't had a sale for the past one year. I think this will calm the spirits, as some may be thinking that half of their portfolios will go free/disabled/deleted because nothing's been downloaded.
I think this will help answer many questions.
For the rest - I'm looking towards 2007 (as well as the growth of my portfolio here) with hope!
Petar
p.s. having recently become an exclusive photographer I though that it'd be nice to share one thought with those like me (exclusive) - becoming exclusive here is like marriage - there's good times, and there's some bad times too... Whether you want it or not - you'll have to give up some things! But the beauty of it all comes when you learn how to live well with the other side. So - learn and be ready to enjoy a lot! :) |
The images that are older then one year and don't have any downloads are very few, everyone can check in their online files at the old images and see which are those, while there also check the quality of the images and see if they still have a chance. |

zitierte Meldung: Wow, this has already become a huge thread!!! At the risk of being lost in the "noise" I am going to add my 2 cents in here. Deleting files from someone's portfolio just because they don't sell is probably a good idea for the agency. But at the same time I can't help but think that as no one is able to predict what designers are looking for it also comprises some risk. But I guess, as this is a commercial venture getting rid of the non-movers will help to bring costs down and profits up, so I can see the point in it for DT.
However, now I'm beginning to wonder why I should remain exclusive here. As lots of people have pointed out, images that don't sell well here, may sell elsewhere. So just because an image didn't do well here, doesn't mean it won't do well elsewhere, and if I'm exclusive to DT, well I'm now only restricting my posibilities. And for the strictly amateur type (like myself) I really am not expanding my horizons. Only just having reached a 100 images, I am now looking at having probably 75% of my portfolio being erased. Good thing I don't rely on this for a living, but then if I did I probably wouldn't have signed on as exclusive.
I think that this is only going to benefit the contributors who do this professionally and the agency, but not the part-timers. It seems to me that we aren't really that wanted on this site anymore now that the success has started to roll in. But then that's life. Survival of the fittest.
Looking over my portfolio I realize that I really only have about 3 images that sell reasonably well (5-6 downloads of these images over the last 5 or so months), the rest occasionally sell, and some of them don't simply because there are tons of other images out there and maybe these don't show up in the first 2 pages of the search results. Doesn't necessarily mean they're bad (otherwise they wouldn't have made it on here in the first place). Or maybe it just means that their time hasn't come yet... maybe in 90 months time everyone will be looking for an image of a burnt motor bike, but by then those pics in my portfolio would have been deleted!
OK more like 4 cents worth, but it got me thinking really hard about reviewing my exclusivity with DT now.
S. |
Exclusivity doesn't have anything to do with this change, there will be very few images deleted. Other than that the exclusive contributors have an advantage in this change. The prices are growing and so are the earnings. |
