I've recentlly noticed, since I have installed PS CS again on my computer after a crash, that now - when I open a CRW file and then I save it as a JPG, I see a loss of saturation which is clear to my eyes. Has anyone encountered this problem? Is it the color setting in the RAW management in PS CS? If yes, which is the value to set up for a better results? Thanks for your help.

The problem (well not really a problem) is that the image that you are looking at in PS CS is the embedded JPG with the RAW file. This JPG has been processed using the parameters that you have set. When you open the file in CS you are viewing this JPG Preview. When the profile mismatch dialogue box opens the default option is "Do not Color Manage" (or something to that effect) When you discard the profile and work in your current application space you are viewing the RAW File. The true RAW file. You have to remember that RAW is un processed. there have been no effects applied to the image by the camera. If you want to keep the saturation then you have to choose the option to keep the embedded profile. However this has drawbacks since most people discard it anyway. So if a designer later opens the file and discards the profile they too will see a flat looking image.
It's best to pump up your colors in photoshop afterwards. |

Thanks for your explaination but I don't find correspondence between the english commands you quote and my italian version of CS. I don't find anything similar to "Do not color manage" on my CS RAW files management window. Maybe you could help me with some screen copy showing me which setting you are referring to? Thanks a lot for your help. |

Thanks. I think you have a Mac version. I've never seen this mask before. I have changed the color setting and now it seems to be working better. Thanks anyway for your help. Nice to know you have spent some time for giving me this information. Thanks again. |
